More About the Maestro
Hi, I'm Nathan Lyle, a 2001 graduate of Northern Michigan University with a BS in Network Computing. I've been designing Web sites since roughly 1996, and when I graduated from NMU and decided to remain in the area, I became the U.P. Web Maestro. (It sounds like there should be theme music with that last sentence.)
It all began.... when I was in 4th grade. My dad brought home the Lyle's very first computer, an Apple II+, and I still remember getting in my dad's way, waiting for it to be hooked up and turned on. By 6th grade, I'd taught myself to program in Applesoft Basic and was writing programs in my free time—even during school, which wasn't really supposed to be considered free time.
In high school my interests swung over to music and computers were left behind for a while. In 1994, after a year or two in college, I bought my own first computer (a PowerMac 7100/66) which even after having been hit by lightening, still ticked along for many years. It ended it's career as a game machine for a next generation of Lyles.
During my last few years at college, I worked as a Web site developer for various university departments, as well as local businesses and organizations. Throughout this time, both in and out of the classroom, I learned to be comfortable in Windows, Apple and LINUX environments of various flavors. Because I tend toward the nastalgic, I even set up an Apple II+ emulator (so I could program in Applesoft Basic again) on my NMU Thinkpad.
I married for the second (and final) time in September of 2001, and have four children—three boys and a girl—Joshua, Joseph, Kari and Raymond.
Music has been an important part of my life since high school, and I've played various instruments in various bands over the years. My first band was Reality Shock (initially keyboards, and then bass and vocals), followed by Head (keyboards) and then Brave Sir Robin (guitar and keys). Since then I've participated for a few years in local open mics, played for a while in a cover band called Badfish, and have been writing my own piano based original songs with the idea of playing solo gigs at some point.
Back To Business...
The Maestro shares office space with Greta Berg, an experienced and talented graphic designer who owns Company B Graphic Design. If you need something in the way of signs, decals, stickers, logos, letterhead, business cards, postcards, etc.—you can reach her at (906)228-5887. (And don't forget to tell her the Maestro sent you!). Aside from the office space, we also share the same approach to doing business, and are proud to be a part of the Marquette area business community.
