Character Entities & Codes

Special characters can be represented in documents with "character entities". Some of these characters can be typed directly from the keyboard, but not all operating systems use the same code and so what may work on your computer will not for someone viewing your web page.

To use either the entity or code shown below, make sure you include the beginning ampersand (&) and the closing semi-colon (;) as shown. When you use the code number instead of the entity, you also need to include the pound sign (#) after the ampersand but before the code number. Entities are case sensitive.

The following are primarily taken from the ISO-Latin-1 Character Set (ISO8859-1).
