Dialer Configuration Info
The following instructions are intended to help you configure your dialing software for your modem. We cannot provide support for all configurations, but if you are having trouble, contact us to see if yours is a known issue that we can help you with.
If you're not sure where to change your settings, you might find this program helpful.
Windows XP Dialer:
- Click on 'Start'
- Click on 'Control Panel'
- Click on 'Network And Internet Connections'
- Click on 'Set Up Or Change Your Internet Connection'
- Click on 'Set Up'
- On the 'New Connection Wizard Window' click 'Next'
- On 'Network Connection Type' select 'Connect To The Internet' and then click 'Next'
- On 'Getting Ready' select 'Set Up My Connection Manually' and then click 'Next'
- On 'Internet Connection' select 'Connect Using A Dial Up Modem' and then click 'Next'
- On 'ISP Name' type any name you wish to give to your connection and click 'Next'
- On 'Phone Number To Dial', enter the phone number you selected (without the area code if the number is local). Make sure the phone number entered is on the same Network you created the account on.
- On 'Internet Account Information' enter your Dial Up Account User Name And Password. Then re-enter the password on 'Confirm The Password' and click 'Next'
- On completing the 'New Connection' wizard check the box which reads 'Add A short Cut To This Connection To My Desktop' and click 'Finish'
The Wizard will place the icon on your desktop. To connect to the internet, simply, double-click that icon.
Windows NT Dialer:
- Click on the 'My Computer' icon.
- Click on the Dialup Networking' icon.
- Click "New" to add a Phonebook entry.
- Locate a local phone number and enter that as the Telephone number, enter MDV as 'Entry Name'.
- Click on 'More' button first if needed and then click 'Configure'. Select correct modem speen and click 'Ok'.
- Select the 'Server' tab. Ensure that 'PPP lCP extensions are NOT checked and that TCP/IP is the ONLY network protocol checked.
- Click the 'TCP/IP Settings' button and make sure server assigned IP and name server address are both checked. Also make sure both checkboxes (Use IP and default gateway) near the bottom are checked.
- Click 'Ok' and select the security tab. Make sure the "Accept any authentication" is selected and click 'Ok'.
- Click the 'Dial' button. Verify/enter the username and password (leave domain blank).
- Click the 'Ok' button to get connected.
Troubleshooting: Make sure the phone number, user name and password (both case sensitive) are correct and all the above settings were configured correctly.
Windows 95/98 Dialer:
The Dial-up networking that comes with Windows95 is easy to use. If you don't see Dial-up networking in the Accessory group, you should need to install it. If you have Dial-up Networking already installed, skip to step 8.
- Goto Add/Remove Program in Control Panel.
- Choose Window Setup Tag.
- Highlight the Communication (leave the check box checked)
- Click the Detail Button
- Check the Dial-up Networking
- Click OK and Click OK
- Follow instructions provided on the screen
- After successful installation, Double click on Make New Connection in Dial-up Networking group (or Click Start, then Programs, then Accessories, then Dial-up Networking, then Double click on Make New Connection).
- Type in 'mdv' for the computer you are dialng, choose Next.
- Locate a local phone number and enter that as the Telephone number, choose Next.
- Type MDV in the text box and Click Finish.
- You should be able to see a MDV icon in Dial-up Networking group.
- Finally, double click on MDV icon and provide the username and password and Click on Connect button.
Troubleshooting:
- Double click on Network in Control Panel.
- Make sure there is a Dialup adapter, if not, reinstall the Dialup networking as shown above and reboot the computer.
- Make sure there is a TCP/IP there, if not click Add , click protocol, click Microsoft and then TCP/IP to add one.
- Make sure the phone number, user name and password (both case sensitive) are correct.
Apple OS (Macintosh)
- MacPPP/ConfigPPP
- In the 'Connect via Script' area, set all the boxes to 'Out'. Leave the Return Boxes (CR) unchecked.
- Enter your user name and password in the 'Authentication' area.
- Start your connection as directed by the software.
- FreePPP
- In the 'Accounts' tab (under FreePPP Setup), make sure you have the option set to 'Connect Directly'.
- Enter your user name and password in the areas below the connection field.
- Connect as directed by the software.
Troubleshooting: Make sure the phone number, user name and password (both case sensitive) are correct.
