Shopping Carts
There are many reasons you might want to accept payments through your website, and having an online store is just one of them. However, if you do want a store you will likely want a shopping cart. There are many types of carts, and using an existing cart will be much more affordable than having one custom-built.
If you have a particular cart application you'd like to use, we can very likely work with it, just let us know what it is. We primarily use an Open Source (free) cart called CubeCart (though there is a paid version with a few more bells and whistles that can be used as well.)
Also in the Open Source category, some other options would be osCommerce, Zen Cart, and OpenCart. The cart that's right for your website will depend on your particular products or services, and your business model.
These solutions will work fine for most small businesses, but if you need something more robust, you will likely need to purchase a corporate level cart solution. We do not currently work with any software of this type that we can recommend, but would be happy to help you evaluate your choices.
Built-in Installation
When you host your website with us, one of the features your plan comes with is something called Fantastico. This nifty tool lets you automatically install over 45 third party applications, including the following shopping carts: CubeCart, osCommerce, and Zen Cart. If you're the do-it-yourself type, it's entirely possible for you to get your cart up and running all on your own. (Though of course, we'll be happy to help in any way needed.)
